Wyverdale Update March 27 2010 Finding the components

Narisella was presiding over the body of Nadarresh as he lay still and peacefully on the table in Fey Fields.  His friends standing by solemnly, thinking about what they would need to do to help Narisella aquire the ingredients for the powerful ritual to bring the life force or spirit back to his physical body.  Luke, a noble Half-Orc Fighter who spent time burying the many bodies that were ravaged by the wolves of the caravans.  Dayereth, an Eladrin wizard who although distant at times, showed true power, wisdom and heart as he seemed to consider the Dragonborn important enough to learn his name and carry onward to help bring him back.  Arendis, an elven Ranger, whose knowledge and friendship with Narisella helped them to bring Nadarresh to be here with a chance for saving him.  Brent, a young human who came upon the party to aid them, knowing the good that they were doing and wanting to do what he could to help them.  All of them companions and friends forged through the battles and hardships fought in the past weeks and months.  Relying on one another time and again, was something that had truly bonded them in the short time they spent together.

Although Fey Fields is a small grove, they gather some provisions and make their way out of the area and head to get the components for the ritual gathered and brought back to Narisella.  The first necessary component is spiritual essence, an ointment which as luck would have it, is in the possession of a friend of the druids a gnome named Wholian who lives a league south in a small farming community of Gable's Fork. The druids wish to hear news from the expected birth of twins from the town and given the good omen of a falling star in the night sky two weeks ago they expect the children have been born and are well.

Along the way they reach a clearing a few miles from where the Comet had crashed down, they find a figure that looks like a plant that is wearing armor, and clothes.  At first, they figure it is some kind of joke or something as the clothes and gear seem perfectly setup as if this plant is an actual person.  It stands in the middle of an open area with an odd type of root system and growth pattern according to the ranger.  Exploring the items in pack, gear it's wearing and all looks fine except it is a tree.  Although odd, they move on towards the site of the crash and find nothing more eventful, except that the animals here seem to be gone from the area, almost completely.

They near the crater and notice that the trees along it's path however has more trees that are down and uprooted that don't seem to be caused by the comets crashing but rather by a Troll.  It seems to have headed west and south towards the village where they are to find Wholian and the Spiritual Essence.  As they near the area it is overgrown with some fungus and green slime.  Arendis who has been scouting the area, notices some rough terrain but is so agile he makes his way closer to the crater without an issue.  As he nears it however, two large plants rise up and attack him, the trying to grab him and pulling him towards it main "body" but he evades it and jumps back to the rest of the group.  Brent charges forward to the one closest to the crater, and is himself pulled in by it's lashing tendrils.  The rest of the group charges forward and begin to attack back, Aaron pressing the attack closely as does Luke, trying their best to keep it occupied while Dayereth and Arendis help Brent.

As the battle continues, Aaron moves about, keeping the plant occupied, so Luke and the others can strike at it better.  Brent however is doing his best to get away from its grasp and finally steps away and just out of reach.  He slashes away with abandon and after driving it down into the crater until finally it starts moving away along with some powerful spells from Dayereth.  Luke and Aaron finally manage to finish off the other plant as do the others with the first. They all move towards the crater now to investigate the comet.  It seems to be split up at least in half and after examining it for some time, Dayereth discovers the other half has been broken up into at least 18 other peices.  They gather it up and move west and south towards the village following the tracks left by the troll.

As they get closer, there is extreme plant growth near every house in sight and as they lookin int the windows, the "people" there have also been turned into plants as well...the clothes being worn by these trees as well.  More overgrowth of plants at all houses with more "bodies" the one building unaffected is the blacksmiths.  They open up the door and find a dwarf holding a longsword, dead, surrounded by small little twig like creatures a dozen in all, about three feet tall.  The sword itself is skewering one of the doll like objects.  As they remove it, they realize that the troll is heading towards them but has not yet seen them inside.  Luke charges out the door, Aaron right behind him, grabbing the sword from Dayereth on his way out.  Seemingly enraged, the Troll attacks with abandon, not seeming to hold back at all, looking at the party intently as they would make quite a meal for him.

Going to end of town they finally find the man's hut they were looking for, Wholian, to find the spiritual essence, his outpost like hut is overgrown as well.  As they get closer, and finally inside, one of the party notices one of the twig creatures dashing away, too fast for them to catch up to, heading towards the great big tree that stands above the entire forest canopy.  Knowing that they might be in for a tough time, they decide to rest here inside the hut after gathering the spiritual essence they came for inside their packs.  the night looks to be filled with much contemplation until the morning...
