Meetup Gaming group area
Mar 4th, 2010 at 4:50pm

Hello everyone, thanks to Clutch for creating the area for us, here's where we can discuss things between game, about in game rules, personal purchases and such.  I will be posting this on the meetup site as well, so feel free to start your own thread about something you might want to talk about.

I wanted to set a few ground rules

1. Respect. I would like it, you all deserve it. Any discussions should be kept civil.

2. I do not want any pvp (player versus player) or party killing.
-Most of the people that are playing I have talked to want a general "good" campaign. pvp does not fit in here.

3. Although we all metagame - say things that we know but which our characters would have no idea about in a million years, please try to keep it from spilling forth too much. Now don't get me wrong, good and great ideas that your character might be able to do are awesome, so if you come up with something crazy...we'll all see if your character could pull it off.

4. Role Playing...I am not an academy award winner, I doubt any of you are either...but please try to role play your characters...may sound silly but telling me you saying "I use intimidate with the magistrate's lackey to get more money." is not the same as, "I flex my muscles and pull out my sword rubbing my finger down the blade and talking about how sharp it is and how alone we are before the magistrate's lackey" to get him to pay you a larger bounty...

5. Have fun and if you are not...let me know why, so we can fix it for next time.

We also discussed a few things, like missing players, Experience distribution, item and treasure distribution.

I have decided since we have such a fluid group, that experience will be given out as follows:

1. Those there each week get any magic items and/or treasure.

2. Players in session will decide who gets what, as DM I will get items for everyone eventually but in the end the players decide who gets what.

3. Missing players will get full experience so that levels stay close together.

4. Money will be given to missing players at 25% of the total. (This will allow them to have some money, when gone. This is not removed from what the active party gets, but given by me, the DM.)

5. Get a second edition character ready as all Characters have 841 XP as of right now.

6. Missing players have 841 xp and 352gp.

In the current 4th edition world and setting, some things may change but mostly I am sticking with the known worlds and areas. Guidelines are listed in the forums but basically use the Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register website, which allows you to create/print out up to a third level character for free...you can adjust them later.

Stick to the core sets, First three brackets on Classes, first two brackets on races.  If you think it might be odd or not allowed, either have another one ready or contact me before Saturday.

100 GP to start the game to buy equipment...standard items

Weekly Meetup Game

To clarify, our game will proceed as follows:

Every other week

on Saturday's at
Galactic Goods Cards & Comics
343 West Esplanade Avenue
Kenner, LA 70065
504-466-8470

1:00pm - 5:30pm

Persistant campaign setting near Elturgard, about 500 miles east of Baldur's Gate
(Currently) level 2 characters playing 4th Edition rules.

I hope that we can settle the group and keep this as static as possible so that everyone has a great time playing.

I welcome anyone to watch and ask questions about the group or the game if they have any.
I may be able to help other player's find a game of their own if our schedule conflicts.

Currently we have a cleric, wizard, warlock and monk. We could probably use a fighter or warlord although I will do my best to keep the game flowing.

I was recently reintroduced to this website, which is called Order of the Stick...or rather that is the comic strip that I am referring to here.  It has more than seven hundred (700+) strips that go in order although some are more appropriate and funny if read in order.  So check it out as it is well worth your time.  I am up to about 150's or so....See all of you on Saturday!

Yeah, it's awesome. You should also check out its sister comic, Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register. Book 1 is on the Giant ITP website and the Erfworld site, too. It takes a handful of strips before you get a solid grasp of what's going on; once you do that, it's as addictive as anything.

I can't wait for the next session. Is anyone going to coninue to post updates after each session so we can stay in the loop? I know my character won't know what's going on unless the DM says he was "there," but I still like to be in on the adventure.

Yes, I am going to continue writing a quick synopsis of what happens by at least Wednesday...Forgive me for the next few weeks though as the World Cup is happening right now, so I spend much of my free time watching the games...I watched almost 14 hours of games this weekend...thus Wednesday...

Current information as June 17, 2010

The Saturday gameday serves a double purpose.  To have new, old and current players get together to talk about D&D and  then to play D&D.  We are playing 4th edition rules at this time in an ongoing original campaign that I have created.  The rules are the same as can found in the basic books, including the divine and martial powers books.  I would prefer standard races at this time, although we do have Kenku (bird race) in the party.  (See Below)

As of the last three sessions, it has been pretty consistent on the players and a solid group has been gaming as opposed to "just" talking about the game.  However we all joke around and talk about the older versions of D&D as well.  Most if not all of the new players have found me either through the meetup website, personally or through here at nolarpg.  Since I have talked to each person, adding in new players has been a bit crazy at times but I always am willing to add new players if it is possible.

At present, the party is in an enclosed building/structure that seems to have a lot of magic and teleportation devices and sigils.  Because of that anyone new will not be in the same place as they were but that's not to say I can't get them there.  I currently have the following players:

Jennifer      Cleric of Corelon-Kaylee
Ryan            Goliath Barbarian-Krunch
Christian      Kenku Rogue-Ghesh
Gene            Human Monk-Myka
Mike            Fighter-Solviss
John            Wizard-Quarian

The party is fairly balanced but I NEVER want you to create something that you don’t want to play.  Everyone is free to create and play a character, as long as it is created using the DND Insider OR Rolled up with me OR a pre-generated character from a tournament that can be or has been leveled or tweaked.

Originally I had planned on keeping everyone at the same level to keep it balanced but as of now it is working out okay, so I am not going to worried about it. NEW CHARACTERS start at 3rd level OR at first, their choice. I understand about wanting to get to know the rules better, so am all for starting from scratch, especially as a new player in fourth edition. SO if anyone has any questions let me know here. Personal or private issues just email me.

Ok, now upon looking at the stats and Experience point distribution, characters will add 1075 to their current totals...not 1800 xp as I had previous said. I doubled up on skill challenge XP

3rd level starts at 2250 so it is now 3325 for current characters except for the ones listed below:

Michael you are now at 1075xp putting you firmly at 2nd level.

Officer John McClane you now have 4825xp and are at 4th level.

I have asked for everyone to have a back story as it relates to your characters to help w/motivation & reasons why you would be in the world we are in & why you are here. Drow still have a reputation as being evil. Only one drow in maybe 200 years has done any truly good things for the surface races...Did you stop worshipping Lloth? Never worshipped her & never will because Bahamut fits your ideals? I want you to be prepared to react if an NPC is negative or the PCs.

As a general rule, Drow are commonly seen ONLY if you are near one of the open areas AND only if you are part of the government soldiers or adventurers in that area. If they are good, even, the idea of Drow as a goodly race is still in question...the Eladrin are seen as Elves for the most part. Kenku even as bird people are considered odd but not in a "We will kill you all" sort of way. Dragonborn are noble paladins and warriors with honor so their scary appearance is overlooked most times.

So in my case I was there for the giant skull portal, but missed the dungeon last week. Where is Vol and how do we plan his reunion with the party next week? Or do you want stuff like that in our private forums?  Cool

I am going to bring you in as I will with anyone else who missed out.  As for you missing last time, yes I would like you to tell us via the forum or maybe some ideas that can be role played during your return.  So with that, the six of you had found some of the soldiers although two died from the circles of lightning.  Ghesh, the Kenku seemed drawn to the skull, Myka was tending the bodies of the soldiers, and as the rest of you made your way around the circles, Ghesh was thrown back almost thirty feet back from the skull and a portal opened up at the mouth of the skull.

Now onto what happened to Adam and Jim...

You feel a tingle that washes over you and the skull pulls away from you as does eveything else around you.  It fades away and you find yourself in a small room made of the same stone that the skull resed upon, except it is in pristine order, and seems not to have aged or worn down.  The room is lighted well enough to see that the room is clean and has a single doorway with stairs leading up.  The stairs seem to rise forever and finally get to the top.  If you had to guess you know you have climbed more than five stories of stairs.  A bright light breaks through from a window on the far wall, providing the only ligt as well as creating its own shadow.

As you look outside you are upon a very steep hill, that could easily be mistaken for a mountain.  It overlooks a deep valley of trees and a river runs below the structure you are in and moves away from it and leads to a bridge some ten or fifteen miles away.  The forest below looks very much like the one you were moving through.  As you try to figure out where you are, a flash rises from below in the forest and envelops you and you see your companions all standing on the circles and someone stands in front of the portal and moves inside it and then they all disappear...

Vol: Blasted magic!

      *spits on the ground*

Never much trusted the stuff. But true enough our compatriots are a tough bunch, enough so to press on after dealing with that accursed lightening.

*slaps Jim's character on the back*
(sorry, forgot his name)

Come! There is no use in chasing after them now, and we still have a mission to complete. We should carry on with our quest! There are good townfolk that are depending on our victory, and with any luck we will reunite with our companions along the way. What say you?

I was wondering, once we get people from the meetup group on this site are we going to try using it for between game role playing like the Wyverndale campaign does? I assumed so (see my post above), but maybe my last post was premature. I think it would be a great way to play out some role playing and build on plot and character developement since time between sessions are far apart. Can't wait for tomorrow's game! See you all there.
