Brix is divided into half a dozen wards, each one has its own subtle character and charm.

Old Town
These buildings date back to when the eldaran used Brix as a garrison. Elegant designs and spires dominate these cobblestone streets. The few shops here offer expensive services and fine goods. The Elvin Manors with high walls and exquisite gardens pepper this part of Brix. The ruling council also has its meeting hall in old town. The is only one Inn in Old-town. An ancient tree towers over the landscape and the inn known as “Old One” rests on platforms in it’s branches. Staying at the “Old One” is a sign of status and its rates reflect that.

Astral district
This is the market place for Brix. Most every building in this part of town has two floors. Typically A business or shop occupies the lower floor while the owner inhabits the upper. Smiths, carpenters, tailors, and scribes can all be found in this district. Surprisingly few Inns are in this area. An occasional free room is open in the front room of an importer’s shop though visitors to the town might feel uncomfortable in the insular setting. Many other religions have small shrines in the astral district and some have small parishes of thirty to forty devotees. Though the majority of these parishioners are from the  the small hamlets which surround the walled town.

Cutter’s ward
This is the smallest though probably most influential ward in Brix. About 20 jewelry shops line the central street of the cutter’s ward. The street ends in a great temple to Garl Glittergold. Exporters and mining companies along with scribes and notaries break the monotony of jewelers’ windows. Set back behind the main avenue are the great mansions of each of Brix mining clans.

Centerhall.
The gnomish community’s heart in Brix is a the large underground avenue which runs below a large field dotted with gnomish dwellings. While the Centerhall of Brix is atypical in that it is open to most of the cities visitor’s ,(and the ceiling is high enough to allow for them) those who wish to do business in this part of town had best speak gnomish or bring a guide. Many locals conveniently “forget” the common tongue here. Most of the goods available in the astral district are also available here though usually at reduced rates for small folk. Shops, taverns, watering-holes, and dwellings abound in this mish-mash of tunnels that honeycomb the field and even the surrounding hills.

The Hill-Gates (north gate)
This is the only part of town most prospectors ever see. Inns and outfitters abound and line the gravel streets. A few churches have set up shrines here in an attempt to attract donations from the miners, though piety is not exactly the order of the day. If a quick sheaf is to be made in this town hill-gates is where it will be made.

King’s row.
The part of town is anything but regal. Workers and laborers who lead a bit more stable of a lifestyle inhabit the dirt streets on this part of town. It’s often said that nothing fancy comes from or goes to king’s row. A produce market separates the astral district from king’s row.

There are cities and towns among the near realms where religion is the focal point of daily life. Brix is not one of them. Though its population would probably support several more religions, only two temples are large enough to merit the attention of visitors. The Grand Temple of Pelor with it's alabaster columns and central spire brilliantly bathed in eternal flame stands near the center of the ward know as the “Old Town.”
Of course the other temple is the grand cathedral to Garl Glittergold. Every literate gnome child in Brix learned to read at this temple. While certainly not as grand in scale as the sun god's, the interior of this temple is bathed in all the riches and craftsmanship the gnomes are known for. Tunnels from centerhall form an underground thoroughfare to the temple and thus cutter's ward as well.

Whether there are ghosts in that house is not for me to say! But, there are far more dangerous things than ghosts.

In the Astral District, down a narrow side street off the plaza a Worn wooden sign with a flame in faded blue paint swings above the door. Inside Rosemary, a skinny ½ elf works over a small boiling pot. A furnace glows in the far corner keeping the room uncomfortably warm. “Welcome” she says in a laughably Hildenbrand accent.
“I have a wide variety of potions, oils and what not, what are you looking for?”
Rosemary’s prices are a bit high though all of her potions come in very stylish blown glass. “It’s half the fun she explains!”

((alchemical supplies, regents and potions available at +10% phb prices))

Local knowledge: The hook is a street in Kings Row.. shaped like a hook; it dead-ends into a tavern notorious for gambling and underworld activity (Hook's end.)  Those who find themselves in debt or owing favors they cant refuse to repay have been “Hooked.” To find the hook look south of the K of Kings row on the Brix map. Just west of Hook's end is a tower which the thugs give a wide berth to. It was always rumored to be haunted though recently the wizard Mel Su Detok has taken up residence. It is no less avoided for its current inhabitant.
