Game in the Works - Initial Call for Players
Aug 28th, 2009 at 7:01pm

NOLA RPGers:

So I'm thinking about starting a game.  I want to do something besides the traditional fantasy setting, so no D&D...  besides, I get enough of that as it is!

Anyhow, I'm thinking maybe Shadowrun, Traveller, or Dark Heresy - maybe a GURPS game in a cool setting, but I'm definitely leaning towards the sci-fi end of things.  I've never played any of these games - well, I played GURPS for about 45 minutes in 9th grade before my friends and I had to eat dinner or something.  Of course, that was a long (long) time ago.  No big deal, though, as I'm a pretty quick learner.  Anyway, combat rules and such aren't rocket science.  RPGs are RPGs, right?  As long as the source material isn't garbage I can get the gist of a game system and adapt it to whatever sort of world I might envision.  Besides, that's the idea!

Regardless of what system I use, I promise it will be good if not totally rad.  I try to customize and write as much as possible, avoiding pre-designed campaign settings and adventures as much as possible.

There you go.  Who's down?  Any suggestions?

I think a shadowrun game would be fun.  had a friend at my last unit who wanted to start one but we could never find enough players.  I've never played before so would be at a little of a learning curve but sure i would pick it up quick.  not sure where you live but im moving uptown so not sure if its close.

I'd do Shadowrun.  Though Heresy would be cool since I play Warhammer 40k and have no shortage of models if you want to use them for in-game.

I'll join.

OK, guys.  I'll pick up a Shadowrun 4th edition book this weekend.  Would you guys be down with starting with a module and then moving on to a custom campaign?  I figure that'd be the best way to get our feet wet.  We could also start building characters together as well.  I'd like to GM it, but it'd be cool for it to be kind of a collaborative effort.

Let me know what you think.  We should probably start a new forum group if this actually materializes into a real game.

I'll be down for that for sure.  I'm not familiar with the Shadowrun system, so a module would be best for me too.

I'll be the ninja elf. ;-P

I'd be curious to know more, I may be interested- I'm a ways out of gaming, but would love to find a new group. So, depending on the details, you might count me in.

I'd be game to join a Shadowrun group.  Haven't played the others, but I've seen Traveller.  Looked pretty cool. What day to you plan to run on?

Okay, just to sum up where I stand:

I used to play Cyberpunk many years ago. From what little I know of Shadowrun, the two are similar, Shadowrun just has some magic and alternate races, whereas Cyberpunk was just our world, but futuristic. I like the idea.

My availability is limited by job and kids. The optimal setup for me would either be Friday or Saturday nights, after 8 (kids' bed time). I'm in Metairie, so take into account travel time, which shouldn't be much if you're uptown. I could do a sunday or weekday night, but I do have ot be up for work the following morning, Friday and Saturday I can game much later.

Does this work?
