Post by Liam on Aug 4th, 2008 at 4:03pm

Our first official meetup will be this saturday.

Date:  Aug 9, 2008

Time:  12:00

Place:  Pyramids

Pyramid Cafe
3151 Calhoun St
New Orleans, LA 70125

Pyramids is friendly to both carnivores and vegetarians.   They don't serve alcohol.

[ This thread is for discussing this meetup only.  Please post if you can attend.  I will start separate threads for discussing other places we can meet and other times. ]

I voted "Probably" though I absolutely plan to be there.  The only things that could take me away would be work or familial obligations, neither of which I am yet aware.  Wives, children and bosses tend to inform you of these things at the last minute at times.   ;)

I'd call that a yes.  We all know that life happens.

I voted probably. I'd like to attend, as I'm new to the area and would enjoy meeting more gamers, but it's 5 miles away and I lack a car or bike at present.

I live on Frenchmen, between St. Claude and Marais. If you can give me a ride, I'll put gas in your car! PM me if you can. If no one can, I'll try to figure out a bus route.

Also, are there outside tables there? I prefer not to leave my 7 month old puppy at home.

I am sure you can hitchhike with Reino since he is just a few blocks away from you.

There are sometimes a few tables outside but I don't think they are out right now and its not the kind of place to take the dog.

Well, then you should be more specific when you say it's friendly to carnivores  ;D

Just a thought.  How are we going to recognize eachother.  I know... I know... a group of gamers tend to stand out, but who knows, maybe you blend.

Liam is in pretty good with the staff at Pyramids, so I am sure he can arrange getting a few tables put together to accommodate how-ever many people will be showing up.  If that is the case, look for the big group (or small group) of people that do not look related to one another.

Or we can use a pass phrase and yell it as we walk in the door.  *shrug*  I'm sure it will all get figured out.

I assumed 'it takes one to know one' but if you want to be coy, bring your 20 sided and roll it while you wait.

Meetup #1 seemed to be a success.  There were 12 people there (though 3 of them were guests dragged there by a gamer).

I will leave this thread open for a few day for people to post their thoughts on the meetup and the food at the location.

I have to agree.  Great turnout by most of the regulars on the board.  Thanks to everyone for showing up.

Good food.  Good conversation. Casual atmosphere.  I look forward to the next meetup.

Even if ya'll do think my gaming style is neanderthal.  ;)

No, we didn't think you were that out of date... more like 150 AD.

From when I saw this originally, I thought it was pretty cool.  Now, this part has me thinking:

Quote:
Lot Notes

Several polyhedra in various materials with similar symbols are known from the Roman period. Modern scholarship has not yet established the game for which these dice were used.

If the "various materials" and symbols could be listed as unidentified as well, then you've got some pretty cool Call of Cthulhu action going on.
