The saga came to a close (more or less).

I went home to Georgia for Memorial Day weekend and, as usual, stopped by my Friendly Local Gaming Store, Tyche's Games (seriously, if you're ever in Athens, GA, stop by Tyche's; they've been open for a really long time and they deserve your patronage), and bought a couple boxes of D&D Minis.  I then, as usual, dug through my closet and basement at my parents' house and found MY OLD HERO QUEST SET.  This was awesome because the game comes with a set of unpainted plastic miniatures, including handfuls of goblins, orcs, skeletons, zombies, and a few other bigger baddies.  Point is, I now have pretty much all the minis I need to run the level 1 dungeon crawl I've planned.

MORAL: If you need a bunch of standard minis, specifically duplicates, check out Hero Quest or some similar board game as a source for miniatures.  You may be able to find just the minis for sale on the internuts.  Definitely worth checking out

Oh, and regarding terrain, I found a few resources online that offered free tiles.  I've made good color prints of them, which I intend to cut out and paste onto card stock.

Funny you mention Hero Quest. That's how I discovered D&D when I was about 7 lol. I don't have the game anymore, but I remembered it and went looking for similar board games while shopping last week. Sadly, I found nothing akin to it :(

Also, Googling "free dungeon tiles" yielded a bunch of other results that I have yet to check out because most gaming sites are blocked here at work.  They're from sites like rpg.net and boardgamegeek.com, though, so I imagine at least some of it is good.
